Message from Swami Karma Karuna & the Anahata Yoga Health and Education Trust Board

April 2025

Hari OM

As you all know, the land that has been home to Anahata Yoga Retreat has been on the market these past months. I would like to share a little of the background story.

I love this land, the magic and the healing that so many have received here.  I will probably teach til my last breaths.… The reason I got to this point was because I was getting close to burnout and was unable to see a way forward. Despite a great trust board and a wonderful manager for the last years (who now returned to her home country), as the only consistent person involved for 28 years, much pressure falls on me to hold it all together and to keep it all going. I am now at a life stage where more balance and ease is needed after 28 years of full time Seva (selfless service).

Thus far the right people to carry a positive vision forward for this land have not appeared so we are aiming to keep options open for a new way forward that allows me to meet my person goals as well as is energetically and financially sustainable. This may also involve keeping the land but doing it differently.

While we navigate this transition, the heart and purpose of Anahata remains strong. We have continued with weekly fire ceremony and yoga offerings over summer, have been welcoming karma yogis, held smaller events and continuing to support a program with Creating Balance that offers classes to women with PTSD as well as running our online Nervous System Reset and Resilience Courses. Anahata is more than just a place—it is still a way of being, a space of transformation, healing, and community.

During this period of change, we are reaching out to you—our extended family—for support. Your generosity has always been the foundation that allows Anahata to offer accessible yoga education, well-being practices, and a space for deep inner work. Now, as we move through an uncertain but hopeful future, your support is more important than ever.

If you have been touched by Anahata in any way—through retreats, teachings, or simply the energy of this sacred space—we invite you to help us keep its spirit alive by donating to help sustain Anahata during this interim period. Your contribution will assist with essential operating costs and continuing to serve those seeking connection, healing, and personal growth. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact.

And a reminder for New Zealand-based donors, all contributions continue to be eligible for a tax credit, as we still operate as a registered charitable trust.

With deep gratitude and trust in the journey ahead,

Swami Karma Karuna and The Anahata Health and Education Trust
