Access to Golden Bay has now been made easier with the reopening of a daily bus service from Nelson. So you can now drive over the Takaka Hill as before (with some restrictions), or arrive by boat, bus or plane.
Following recent storm damage the main road in to Golden Bay is currently under Controlled Access, with several convoys coming through each day, and a more open system on Sundays. This will not affect your booking at Anahata as it is very much business as usual here, and throughout Golden Bay.
But it may affect the way you arrive in to Golden Bay – scheduled bus services from Nelson have resumed so check with Golden Bay Coachlines for timing. New departure time is 10.45 from Takaka Visitor Centre and return times from Nelson and Nelson Airport are as normal but perhaps with a delayed arrival in to Takaka due to hill queues. Our pre-and post-retreat shuttles are timed to meet this service.
Other excellent alternatives, include a very scenic boat ride from Kaiteriteri with a bus transfer from Totaranui, or a scenic flight from either Nelson or Wellington (depending on where you’re travelling from).
If you need a vehicle while in Golden Bay you can bring it over in one of the timed convoys. These run Monday to Saturday from 6 – 8 am and again from 5 – 7 pm. And escorted convoys run all day Sunday from 8am – 5pm. These convoys will also run 8am – 5pm each day over Easter. We suggest you call us on 03 525 9887 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for up-to-date information.
